Airy, warm kitchen renovation in compact 2-story twin

Upgrading a semi-finished mud-room to a finished space with powder room provided the opportunity to reconfigure this kitchen in a modest, 2-story West Philadelphia twin. I upgraded the kitchen electric to all-new, 2008 NEC code-compliant wiring with dedicated circuit for dishwasher / disposal, and coordinating switches for room pass-through.

Details included working switches into the peninsula backsplash behind the sink, and careful penetration into existing decorative tile backsplash opposite.

Philadelphia Housing Development Corporation (PHDC) sets prices once a year for its low-income homeowner emergency home repairs program (Basic Systems Repair Program, BSRP). Their Work Item Price List includes everything from land clearing and masonry to carpentry, roofing, electrical, plumbing and HVAC. The prices appear to be a good starting point for negotiating with your home improvement contractor (expect to go north a bit, though).
